About Me

Hello! I am a Former Engineer turned Arborist, and I have been working in the tree care industry since 2011. After getting my first degree from LaTrobe University in Australia, I came home to the States to work as an Engineer for a defense contractor for a few years before deciding I needed to get out of the office and into a field that incorporated my passions for climbing, hiking, and learning about the natural environment.

My career transition from Engineer to tree climber was definitely not the direction many people would recommend. I heard a lot of "don't do it" and "why would you throw away your degree?" and "but that's such a dangerous job". However, the fact was that risking sitting in a cubicle for years on end scared me far more than heights or hot summers outside. Every day after work as an Engineer, I would be out hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, playing ultimate frisbee, or getting out in some fashion. In my 20s, I simply had to move my body. I looked at several other options, of course, but through a process of exploring each, I was able to narrow my choices down. Today, almost 20yrs later, I find myself going through the same process.

Whether through programming, engineering, woodworking or landscaping, I have always had the need to take an idea and make it a reality.
